The Challenge

An app solely focussed on managing subscriptions

The apps that were on the market at the time of the project were more focussed on helping people manage their overall finances or, they allowed to manage subscriptions on a very basic level. I wanted to design an app that solely focusses on managing subscriptions and allows the customer to either sign up or cancel their subscriptions through the app.

The
Solution

A subscription management app, that will let customers manage all their subscriptions at one place

Savio is a concept for subscription management app, that will let customers manage all their subscriptions at one place by linking the customer's bank account or credit/debit card. Savio allows them to sign up for and cancel subscriptions, help customers keep track of their trial subscriptions and when they will expire. Customers will also be able to find the latest offers and deals by varoius subscription services.

Getting to know the market

Desk Research

Research the subscription service market in the UK and the current state of it.

Competitor Analysis

What apps are already on the market helping customers to manage their subscriptions? Looking at Truebill, Trim, Bobby, Hiatus

Online Survey

I asked people who are signed up to at least one subscription service, to answer questions about how they manage their subscriptions and what makes it frustrating at times.

An estimated 58 million Brits now subscribe to services, spending an average of £18.49 per month [1]

The apps currently on the market are more focused on helping people manage their overall finances or they allow to manage subscriptions on a very basic level

77.3% of the people who filled out the questionnaire do not keep track of their subscriptions

Defining the Savio user

The data gathered during research provided me with the information to put together an archetype of who would be using the app

IDEAtion

Initial sketches and visualising the flow

To start with initial ideas for the design of the app and to also explore how the customer might navigate through the app, I created low fidelity wireframes together with a user flow. These explore onboarding, signing up and the main screens of the app.

Wireframing the main screens

After exploring the various flows, I focused more on the main screens and began to add more details. I also looked at the relationships between the main screens.

Designing the main screens

I created the first version of the UI for the main screens. The app is aimed to be an iOS app and for that, I went through many iOS own apps like Books, Podcasts and Music, in order to get a good idea of how to design Savio, so that it would fit in to the iOS system.

testing

Does the overall concept work?

To test if the idea of Savio would work, I created a prototype and asked 5 people who match the Unorganised Subscriber archetype, to test out the concept. While the testers were going through the main screens, I asked them to comment on the following points:

Testing reveals generally positive feedback and the concept was well-received by testers

Refresh the UI to give it a unique look and feel

After completing the iterations based on the testing results, i also decided to update the look and feel of the app. I wanted to turn it from looking like an iOS app to a more unique-looking standalone application
